The Jackson County Democratic Committee will convene in an online county convention at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 in advance of the Michigan Democratic Party’s state convention Feb. 20.
The purpose of this convention shall be to elect one female member to the state Credentialing Committee and one male member to the state Resolutions Committee, and to consider resolutions to be forwarded to the state party.
Registration will begin at 9:55 a.m. and continue until 10:05 a.m. A Zoom link for the convention has been emailed to eligible members. For further information, email Conner Wood at email@example.com.
Article IV Sections B & C of the MDP Rules stipulate the following qualifications for candidacy and eligibility to vote:
In order to hold Party office or vote at any Convention, Caucus, or meeting at any unit
of the Michigan Democratic Party at any level, a person must be a member of the
Michigan Democratic Party for at least thirty (30) days prior to that Convention,
Caucus, or meeting. A Party member must be a qualified elector in order to vote on
nominations for public office.
Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials, and Democratic nominees to partisan
offices are exempt from the thirty (30) days advance membership requirement.
However, Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials, and Democratic nominees to
partisan office must be a member in order to vote and may join the same day as the
Convention, Caucus, or meeting.
The MDP’s 2021 Spring State Convention will take place from 2:30-5 p.m. Feb. 20 and will include the casting of votes for the chair and two vice-chairs of the State Central Committee each of different gender and race. Eligible delegates will be notified about how to attend prior to the convention.
Voting will take place virtually. Ballots will be emailed to all eligible voters starting at 9 a.m. Feb. 19. The voting window will close at 4 p.m. Feb. 20. Eligible voters will have the option to call a voting hotline in order to cast their votes.

Delegates from each congressional district will meet virtually in caucus starting at 9 a.m. Feb. 20 for the purpose of electing a district chair, vice chair (of a another gender from the chair), secretary, treasurer and at least 15 members of the District Committee, all to serve for two-year terms.
