District 1 Commissioner Unfit for Committee

District 1 County Commissioner Bair, on the Jackson County Human Services Committee, destroyed public trust in the Jackson County Department of Human Services by blatantly ignoring the mission statement in a public meeting. The mission statement clearly reads that delivering quality that addresses public need is the mission.

District 1 Jackson County Commissioner 2026

County Commissioner Bair publicly denounced funding for bilingual, and English as a second language, county residents trying to navigate complex legal documents at the Department of Human Services.

“Jackson County Government, in cooperation with the community and local governmental units, strives through a planned process to deliver quality services that address public needs.”

As recorded on video, April 13, 202612:00 PM from the Tower Building, 5th Floor 120 W. Michigan Ave, Jackson, MI 49201

Significant complaints have been filed by a large number of residents with no results. Should he be removed from a committee whose mission he opposes? You may email him at TBair@mijackson.org or call 517-581-4259 to suggest he move aside and allow someone else on the committee who is more suited for this committee.

Here is a link to the news article where County Commissioner Blair refuses to apologize for his remarks.

Below is the press release submitted by Jackson County Democratic Committee Chair, Amador Ybarra.

The comments made by District 1 County Commissioner Bair only serve to further widen the divide in this community regarding the arguably unconstitutional application of immigration enforcement in the executive branch at the federal level.

The constant name calling and intentional dehumanizing of people makes it glaringly apparent that this commissioner thinks the United States is only for people he says are included.

The commissioner’s concern for the use of tax payer dollars for translation at the courts, for people migrating to the United States, is a cover up for the commissioner’s intended goal of spreading hate and fear among people. We don’t know at this time just who the commissioner would act to exclude from the constitutional guarantee of due process but we are starting to see a pattern.

If the commissioner is concerned with fiscal responsibility they should consider protecting the tax payers of Jackson County by initiating a study for fiscal and civil liability regarding the Office of the Sheriff’s partnership with the ICE 287 (g) agreement.

Any liabilities incurred upon the county will be at the tax payers expense. If this commissioner was even slightly interested in protecting tax payer’s dollars they would want to reduce the potential for liability in all their policies.

Respectfully,

Amador V. Ybarra Jr.
